A recent case from Midland, Texas, called Estate of Mildred L. Ethridge, deceased, illustrates the problems that can be caused by neglecting proper estate planning. Ms. Ethridge prepared her own Will and failed to address all of her property, thereby causing disputes and litigation among the heirs resulting in legal liability for the nephew and executor and causing significant expense to the heirs and estate. A properly prepared Will and estate plan could have easily avoided the unnecessary conflict, litigation and expense.
